Eating healthy at work.

1. Cook a big batch of food on Sunday, such as veggies and pasta, or chicken and brown rice, and freeze portions to take to work with you for lunch. Added bonus: you'll save the money you'd normally spend on all those visits to the salad bar.

2. Don't skip breakfast! Breakfast kick starts your metabolism, and it's also healthier to eat larger meals earlier in the day because you'll burn them off when you're running around the office (or madly typing away at your computer). If you don't have time before work, bring low-fat greek yogurt and a banana or peice of fruit to eat first thing.

3. Stock your desk area with healthy snacks, so an apple or some raisins are always within reach. What kinds of things should you bring to work for snacking? Find the healthiest versions of the snacks you love, and bring them to work. Try air-popped popcorn, low-sugar or juice-sweetened cookies and granola bars, and baked wheat crackers. Go an extra step and buy organic items - these usually have less artificial or unhealthy ingredients - and always read the label to make sure there are no hydrogenated oils.

4. Consider your weaknesses. Think about the biggest challenges for you, healthy eating-wise (no refrigerator at work, picky eater, chocolate-lover, etc.) and use them to your advantage. For example, bring foods to work such as apples and bananas, that don't need refrigeration, or plan out healthy meals that you'll actually like. And try dark chocolate - recent studies show it may lower blood pressure.

5. Try one new fruit or vegetable per week. Ever tried bok choy? What about papaya? There are plenty of new fruits and vegetables out there for you to try - stock up at your local farmers market (buying local is also very environmentally conscious) or visit an ethnic market.

6. Don't completely cut out carbohydrates and fat. Healthy fats, such as those found in nuts (also useful for snacking), and whole grains give you the energy you need to get through the day.

7. Keep portion size in mind. If you visit the deli at lunchtime, buy half of a sandwich, or split something with a friend. Alternatively, try bringing frozen veggies to work, and mixing them together to split with co-workers.

8. Hosting a meeting? Bring some healthy snacks, instead of the usual donuts and pastries. Provide fruits and/or veggies and hummus, cheese and wheat crackers.

9. Always keep a supply of water handy. Most offices have water coolers, so bring a large glass or thermos, or keep a water bottle nearby that you can refill. No water cooler? Stash a few reusable water containers in your bag before work.

10. Take a lunch break. No matter how busy you are, it's both physically and mentally healthier to take a few moments and read, sit outside, or chat with a friend, while enjoying a healthy meal. You'll be re-energized once you return to your desk.

I hope this helps! I am having to post this to remind myself really. I have to say, it's COOOOOOOOOLD and I am getting less motivaded to MOVE! If you pair lack of exercise and poor eating you get weight gain, big time. Lets try to stick to a plan if at all possible and end the year right! The holiday season is almost over and I am determined to have a short resoulution list. Loosing weight not being one of them! See you all soon! I have some pretty cool things to tell you about very soon and I promise to be back full force as soon as the Christmas holidays go by. Man..it's almost here!!! I cant believe just how fast it came.

Tis the season, I'm giving one lucky reader a gift!

Hey there! Long time no see!
Oh Nuts! asked me if I would be interested in a gift giveaway for my blog
readers. I said "heck yeah!" In fact, I kinda owe you all. I have been so busy with the holidays and all I havent had time to post anything this week! Eeeeekkk! I hate it when that happens....
The winner will get a $25 gift certificate from Oh Nuts and you can choose from anything in thier store!~ Dont worry, I am going to tell you all about Oh Nuts! Here we go!
Some businesses open their doors with minor motive, others with a massive mission…though if you take the time (or Business School courses) to profile the ones that make it, you'll find that those that succeed usually have one thing in common—the ability to provide a product or service better, faster and more efficiently than most anyone else.
Case in point, the impetus behind the Klein family's decision to open the doors of their first (of four and counting) Oh Nuts store back in 1992.
You see, before they got the world to "go nuts for Oh Nuts", the Kleins were the proud and successful owners of a well regarded wholesale nut and confectionary products company. As the bulk of their clientele was caterers and manufacturers rather than retailers they spent an inordinate amount of time at various food and food related tradeshows. During the conversations with both fellow exhibitors as well as attendees they realized that the food chain that linked product to actual consumer had more levels than a video game. The difference was though in a video game reaching a level means you're good enough to be hit with fresh challenges while adding a level to the retail process usually meant losing a level of freshness and quality as the distance from source to store got that much longer.
Which inspired the Kleins to ask, What if we took a detour around the numerous distributors, sub distributors wholesalers and sub wholesalers? What if we opened a store where the selection was farm and factory fresh because its inventory came directly from a wholesalers that dealt directly with the brands? An added benefit to this unique idea was the ability for the Klein's new retail entity to sell in bulk—vs. just the pre-packed, pre measured quantities and combinations that the manufacturer or distributor deemed desirable. This meant that if customer A wanted no black jelly beans and customer B wanted ONLY black jelly beans, there was finally a retail entity to make this jellybean dreams a reality.

What's in a Name?
As legend has it, a number of the Klein's friends who heard the idea said you could go nuts trying to name a store like that. In their excitement, the Klein’s thought their friends said "Oh Nuts" instead of "Go Nuts" and proceeded to throw caution to the wind—and themselves into designing a 15x15 retail space into a warmly cozy experience that would become their flagship store.
While their products were both dairy and non dairy, their first Oh Nuts hand a definite dairy dynamic if for no other reason than the fact they used milk crates as display shelves.
Though as these shelves were displaying absolute freshest selections of imported and domestic nuts, dried fruits and confections, they quickly realized that consumers liked their fresh approach to retailing.
And while the milk crates were eventually replaced by more conventional retail displays and shelving, and the flagship store welcomed an even more impressive sibling less than a year later, one thing that didn't change then—and won't ever change, is the Klein's approach to retailing.
"Keep It Fresh," "Keep It Fun," "Keep It Phenomenal."
Today, the Oh Nuts brand is a nationally recognized one stop shop for everything in dried fruits, nuts, chocolates, candies, related confections (both finished products and raw ingredients,) custom and pre-configured gift baskets for any occasion, (real or imagined)—even hard to find items like sugar-free and organic products—become remarkably easy to find when you enter the world of Oh Nuts.

Oh! Nuts On Line—The Sweetest Surf on the Web
QUESTION:
What has over 2000 items, bulk and wholesale prices on a whole lot of your favorite fruits, nuts and confections, a selection of gift baskets for any budget and occasions—AND provides one of the most impressively rated shopping experiences on the web?

ANSWER: www.ohnuts.com (as in the place you're visiting to read this).

Fact is, between our selection, service and speed our on line presence is a virtual mirror of our retail experience. www.ohnuts.com Regardless of whether it's a single basket going to Sacramento or 5 dozen New Year's baskets needed overnight for your clients throughout North America, you can count on "Basketland"--our fully computerized, 10,000 plus square foot "nerve center" to make it happen. And because "Basketland" stocks all the items you'll find on our website (yes, all 2000+ of them) you can customize your basket to suit the occasion, recipient or budget—without turning yourself into a basket case in the process. Then again, with specialty baskets for most every religious and secular holiday (Happy Secretary's Day!) not to mention baskets for most every lifecycle event from Baby Shower to Bris to Bar/Bat Mitzvah to Bronze (and beyond!) Anniversaries, its should come as no surprise that nationally recognized gift basket gurus consistently give our off-the-shelf solutions higher ratings for creativity, contents and cost/value than most any custom company.

Our "Incredible Bulk"…Because Baskets Are Just the Begining…
Most businesses would be thrilled to pieces to have an entity with the reputation and loyal customer base our "Basket Land" division has developed.

But Oh Nuts.Com didn’t get to be the "Sweetest Surf On The Web" by being like most businesses. That's why we make the bulk buying of your favorite dried fruits, nuts and confections easier—and more affordable than ANY shlep to the supermarket (not to mention warehouse club, mass discounter and all those other retail chains) to whom nuts and confections are mere products—not the passion they are to us. Regardless if your tastes run salty or sweet, spicy hot or sour power puckering you'll find a solidly suitable selection of sweet tooth satisfying stuff that you can order by the pound, pint or price…in short, what you want, the way you want shipped where you want to arrive when you want.

No matter if it's a bathtub full of butterscotch Jelly Belly's (we’ve been one of their top customers for over a decade) a backstage hospitality suite which has been contractually obligated to provide its visitors with an endless supply of assorted chocolate lentils in every color except green (wouldn't be the first time!) or an assortment of mixed-nuts using smoked almonds, salted macadamias and chocolate-covered brazil nuts exclusively—we’ll make it all happen with a simple point and click…and without making you crazy.

The Life of the Party. Specialists in Creating the Concept as well as the Contents
How it happened we're still not sure, but somewhere between shipping out 300 to 500 baskets a day and keeping an eye on what's new, what's next & what's now in everything related to gift baskets, we also became known as one of the East Coast's leading sources of event related services.
While it started as an extension of our basket business, this department quickly took on a life all its own, thanks to a staff that always seems to know what our clients needs—sometimes before they do. Regardless if you call them innoventive or imagineers, all it takes is a call to understand why you'll be calling our event development & promotions group to help you make the most of your corporate or personal event.

Regardless if its working with our vast network of vendors to source—or even custom create the perfect memento (we've done it all from downtown chic to retro 70's cheesy), or augmenting an existing color scheme or thematic with just the right shade of jelly beans and wrapped candies (we have access to virtually every brand that defined your childhood) our full complement of party planners and consultants are ready to work with you, your caterer or event coordinator to make sure your event is one of a kind…in more ways than one.
In fact, we even have our own specially trained on-site party teams whose job it is to ensure that execution exceeds vision. If you're now thinking, Wow, that sounds like they'll actually send down a crew that will make sure everything looks perfect, which means I’ll have one less thing to worry about—you're right…as long as we're there, that is.

And if you think it takes big bucks to make big ideas happen, think again. That’s because when you deal with us, you’re dealing with the source. That means your budget goes farther because there's no middlemen markups to detour it along the way.

And Much, Much More.
While itemizing everything we offer would require a website all its own; the following is a small cross section of what we're capable of…when a client is going nuts.
Custom Wedding FavorsBring us a page from a magazine or a clip from a movie and watch us do what it takes so your guests take home more than memories
Themed Corporate GiftsNo matter if your message is "cutting edge" Wall-Street or Classic Middle America Main Street, our custom corporate gifts are designed to mean business…for your business that is.

Custom Created Confections. Complete with monograms, logos or photo-real images.
Exclusive Event-Inspired FlavorsFrom TexMex seasoned nuts for Western themed events, Pizzaola-flavored veggi-chips for Italian inspired evenings, rum infused confections for Caribbean/Cruise themes…ok, you get the idea! No matter if your taste buds prefer pomegranates or authentic NY pickles, to get a taste of what we can do for you, just give us a call.

Full Consultation Services. Regardless if you prefer a face to face or have a schedule that only permits email or phone conferences, our pre-event consultation services are available around your schedule to help you plan, produce and perfect any or every element involved in turning your dream into reality.

Color Coordinated Custom Confections. Because we're the source our candies, cookies and coated nuts aren't just a shade better and fresher, they can also be made in the perfect color or shade to compliment any color scheme.
Mini Gift BasketsWith everything that’s made our regular gift baskets the hits they are—just taken down a size.

Swag Bags. Their contents range from watches to wines to weekend getaways…the perfect and preferred way to keep your event top of mind for months, instead of minutes.
In House Art DepartmentYou have enough on your mind so let our staff create your monograms and/or logos—or adapt any existing designs.

Party Planners. From bars to boardrooms to backyards and hotel ballrooms, when it comes to turning a venue into a vision our event staff takes the "Tabla-Rasa" (thats blank slate) approach—as in every room is a blank canvas waiting to be painted with our unparalleled selection of fruits nuts, candies, chocolates and custom crafted items that will be created just for you. Every room is a masterpiece waiting to happen!
Table-TeamsSeeing is believing and once you see the magic our table teams perform when it comes to dressing and detailing tables and common areas, you’ll be sure to invite them to all your upcoming events.

You Name It. No seriously, just name it. Because when it comes to making your event beyond everything you ever imagined, all you need to do is ask. Fact is, our productions aren't limited to edibles and enticing gifts. We're also about creating environments which integrate sound, music and lighting with your party's motif or organizational message. The result? A breathtakingly immersive experience that will dazzle your guests from start to finish.

For Pete's sake!

If you are Gluten free because you want to be or because you want to be than today's post is for you! I had a boyfriend once that was gluten free because he was a siliac and it challenged me in every way when it came to cooking. Well, he challenged me in everyway anyway but well stick to the eats for right now :)

When we first started dating I didnt know what "gluten free" was. I was almost scared by the thought of gluten free cooking and was intemidated by the long list of foods that he couldnt eat or incorporate into his foods. After a little while and much research I became excited about cooking for him and wanted to make him all his favorites. You take things like pizza, pasta, burrito's and oatmeal for granted until you cant have them. I was not about to let a intolerance stop me from making some of the best food I have ever tasted. Of course, I had a few bumps in the road (I will say that baking is tough) but all in all, I got the hang of it quickly. I made all the things that he couldnt have and then some! I have spent Thanksgiving with my now friend and always love to make my foods that I grew up with gluten free. Today, I am about 80% gluten free. After dating someone with the food allergy and omitting the foods out of my diet I realized just how hard white flour, barley, wheat and rye can be to digest! Well my friends, today's post is perfect for Thanksgiving and if you want to really impress someone that is gluten free or you want to try something new, this is the recipe for you! Hope you enjoy!

Gluten-Free Herbal Bread Dressing is a good example of how gluten-free cooks can adapt traditional recipes to gluten-free recipes that are fit for a feast that everyone can enjoy. The foundation of this recipe is Gluten-Free Walnut Rosemary Bread, with texture and flavor ideal for bread stuffing.

Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 50 minutes
Total Time: 80 minutes

Ingredients:
8 cups cubed Gluten-Free Walnut Rosemary Bread OR your favorite GF bread (1/2 inch cubes. crust removed)
1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
2 cups chopped onion- Walla Walla or other sweet variety if possible
2 cups chopped celery with leaves
1/2 cups chopped fresh chives
3 tablespoons minced fresh sage
1 tablespoon minced fresh thyme
2 lightly beaten large eggs
1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
1/2 teaspoon pepper, or to taste
1 cup gluten-free chicken broth
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350°

Directions:
Spread bread cubes in one layer on 2 large baking sheets. Bake for about 12 minutes or until cubes are dry, but not browned.
Allow bread cubes to cool. Place cooled cubes in a large mixing bowl.
Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium high heat. Add onions and celery and sauté for about 10 minutes or until onions are translucent, but not browned.
Add herbs to vegetables and sauté an additional 2 minutes.
Add vegetable herb mixture to bread cubes and stir to mix.
Pour lightly beaten eggs into mixture and stir to blend.
Add salt and pepper and stir to mix.
Add gluten free chicken broth and stir to thoroughly combine all ingredients. If the stuffing is too dry, add more broth, 1 tablespoon at a time, being careful not to overdampen or stuffing will be soggy.

Transfer stuffing to a buttered 13x9 inch baking dish and bake for approximately 50 minutes or until the top is golden brown.Tips: If you like a heavily flavored stuffing, add 1 tablespoon of gluten free poultry seasoning to bread cube mixture before baking.Test flavors and moisture content- Melt 1 teaspoon of butter in a small skillet. Over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of stuffing and cook just until golden brown. Taste and add more herbs, salt or pepper if needed. If the dressing seems too dry try adding another egg. Too much broth can make the dressing soggy.Always make sure your work surfaces, utensils, pans and tools are free of gluten. Always read product labels. Manufacturers can change product formulations without notice. When in doubt, do not buy or use a product before contacting the manufacturer for verification that the product is free of gluten. You can add anything that you want to this recipe...Cranberries, mushrooms of sorts, shaved almonds...be creative!

Hope you enjoy this post and your Monday. See you tomorrow!

Thanksgiving is just around the corner!!!

HAPPY FRIDAY!!! Todays post will be devoted to healthy subsitutions for your holiday eats! I have a ton of tips to get you through the cold weather, fatty foods and lack there of modivation. Join me this season and dont follow the crowd!

Healthy Holiday Eating Tips for Thanksgiving

Do you know that the average Thanksgiving dinner has over 2000 calories? It can be a real challenge if you are watching your waistline. The following are some eating tips so that you can still look good and be healthy after the Thanksgiving dinner without having to deprive yourself.
Healthy Holiday Eating Tips for Thanksgiving
If you are a guest of a Thanksgiving dinner:

Don't go to the Thanksgiving dinner hungry: we often eat faster and more when we are hungry - therefore eat a wholesome breakfast and lunch on the day to avoid overeating at dinner time.
Thanksgiving dinner is not an all-you-can-eat buffet: Fill your plate half with vegetables, one quarter with a lean meat and the rest with a starch of your choice. Eat slowly and stop when you are full.
Turkey - go skinless: choose your 4-oz turkey portion skinless to slash away some fat and cholesterol. Save your appetite for the side dishes and desserts.
Side Dishes - watch your portion size: go for smaller portions. This way you can sample all the different foods. Moderation is always the key.

Make a conscious choice to limit high fat items: high fat food items can be found in fried and creamy dishes as well as cheese-filled casseroles in a traditional Thanksgiving meal . For instance, mashed potatoes are usually made with butter and milk; green bean casseroles are often prepared with cream of mushroom soup, cheese and milk and topped with fried onions; candied yams are loaded with cream, sugar and marshmallows. If you cannot control the ingredients that go in to a dish, simply limit yourself to a smaller helping size. Again moderation is the key.

Drink plenty of water: alcohol and coffee can dehydrate your body. Drink calorie-free water to help fill up your stomach and keep you hydrated.

If you are the honorable chef of a Thanksgiving dinner:

Substitute high fat ingredients with lower-fat or fat-free ingredients. Learn about the 5 easy steps to recipe substitutions or see table below.

Leftover Turkey? Instead of turkey sandwiches, use the leftover turkey to make a pot of soup with fresh chunky vegetables.
Experiment with new recipes: I did a search on Google and found numerous delicious yet healthy low-fat contemporary Thanksgiving recipes. Experiment!

Healthy Thanksgiving Recipe Substitution Tips
Recipe calls for...
Substitutions
1 whole egg -2 egg whites
sour cream- low fat plain yogurt or low fat sour cream
milk-skim or 1% milk
ice cream-frozen yogurt
heavy cream (not for whipping)
- Nutriwhip
cheese-
low-fat cheese (please note: non-fat cheese does not melt well if use in cooking or baking)
butter- light butter (light smart balance)
cream of mushroom- fat-free cream of mushroom

Hope this short post helps! I will be back with MUCH more news and reviews Monday! Enjoy this glorious weekend! You deserve it!

See you Monday!

Recipe!

Lemon Chicken
Prep: 15 minutes
Total: 25 minutes
Yield: Serves 6
1 tablespoon chopped garlic
2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon olive oil, separated
3 cups low-fat, reduced-sodium chicken broth
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 teaspoons water
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1/2 cup cauliflower puree
1 tablespoon chopped parsley (optional)
2 large egg whites
1 large egg
1 cup whole-wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
6 boneless, skinless chicken breast cutlets (about 2 1/4 pounds)

Directions:
In a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat, sauté the chopped garlic in 1 teaspoon of the olive oil until it begins to turn golden brown. Add the chicken broth, turn the heat to high, and reduce by half, about 8 minutes. Add the lemon juice.
In a small bowl, combine the water and cornstarch. Slowly stir the cornstarch mixture into the boiling chicken broth. The mixture will thicken quickly. Add the cauliflower puree. Sprinkle in parsley, if desired. Cover to keep warm and set aside.
Meanwhile, begin heating the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large heavy-bottomed skillet over medium heat. Whisk the egg whites and egg in a shallow bowl. Combine the flour, salt, and garlic powder on a large plate. Dredge each chicken cutlet in the seasoned flour and then dip in the egg mixture. Drop the cutlets directly into the heated skillet. Sauté 4 to 5 minutes per side, until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through. Add the lemon sauce and cook 2 to 3 minutes more to combine flavors. Serve.

Erin Braxton, designer of ultimate lounge wear!

Hey there! Welcome to the middle of November! Can you believe that we're here?
I can honestly say that I am surprised how fast Thanksgiving is approaching. I am ready to get started with Christmas shopping and I am hoping that you are too.

Don't wait til the last minute! From now until Christmas the blog will be packed with wonderful gift ideas and today's post is no exception. In fact, if you are looking for something truly special, look no further. I found a company and products so great that I could barely wait to tell you about it. I found Erin Braxton! I was reading blogs one day and came across a blogger that was raving about the comfort of her clothing line. The fabric was "to die for" and just one look I knew that I wanted to see for myself what all the fuss was about. I contacted Erin to see if she would be so kind to allow me to try out some of her wonderful creations. I have to say, it is always great to speak directly to the creator themselves and get a birds eye view of the product and company before I receive the package. Erin was on top of her game and I totally respect her for that. I would send out a e-mail and she would always get back to me within a few hours. I was impressed by the questions that she asked me and felt so special that she decided that I would be worth the expense to send me some of her amazing clothing. She doesn't just send anyone product as her line is expensive to produce and who can afford to send out things to every blogger that inquires? You know by now that I usually review food products, supplements and new and exciting gadgets geared toward well being. I have set out to find some great Christmas gifts for you or your special someone! Get out your wish list folks, this site and her clothing needs to be at the top of your list! Trust me on this one! Lets take a closer look at Erin:

Erin Braxton : Designer Profile

Erin posing with Erin Braxton Lounge wear model, Aria, Las Vegas.

The early years:
From birth I always loved my name and wanted to do something fun with it. I always loved being cute with little to no effort. I was always very interested in fashion and clothes. I always enjoyed lounging around, alone or with others.

College, circa 1996
Following 4 years of study, internships and more internships, armed with a journalism degree, I set off to Dallas, TX for an exciting life in the world of advertising.

The ad agency years: 1996-2007
I did what I set out to do. I landed a job at the big ad agency, then had a short stint in a major retail corporate marketing department before heading to the next big ad agency. I got to travel all over to this photo shoot and that TV shoot. I met some cool people, stayed in some great hotels and had some amazing meals. But in the back of my mind I wanted a different life.

The epiphany: summer 2003
One weekend my lifelong best friend, Kandy , came to visit me in Dallas . We shopped every TJ Maxx and Marshalls in the city, obsessed with finding cool pajamas and sexy moo moo's (that was tough). When the time came to decide what to return and what to keep, all of my new pajamas and loungewear were in the "keep" pile. Being cute and sexy at home, even when I'm just hanging around by myself was always my thing. You never know who might drop by.

But I couldn't sacrifice comfort and I found it difficult to find things that fit all of my needs; sexy, comfortable, current and company appropriate.. Then, one day it hit me, "Why don't you just create your own line of loungewear that is everything you'd want it to be?" So I did. Through much trial and error, self-education, and passion, Erin Braxton loungewear was born.

Today...
In 2007, I relocated myself, my business and my Westie to Los Angeles to pursue my loungewear dream. The fact that I'm not a traditional fashion designer has helped to keep me going and positive. I love creating beautiful things for women that they'll enjoy.

Erin's Philosophy
you can be cute, hip, sexy and comfortable...all while lounging you can be sexy for your significant other and comfortable at the same time. you can be cute when you run out to take care of a few errands without having to change into something different. your loungewear can be hip enough for travel. you can rock the best loungewear poolside and beachside in your favorite destination escapes.

Erin's Loungewear Is...
Hip, sexy and comfortable. I like to call it hip comfort. Eco-friendly, made with super soft modals and cottons. Designed with flattering lines, simple cuts and a focus on current fashion. Cut to flatter today's realistic body type, the relaxed fit works with your curves. Versatile lounge wear, useful in many everyday environments.

I received the basic top and pant set from Erin in Indigo. Erin told me just how wonderful the fabric was. SHE WAS RIGHT! When I opened the package and felt the clothing I was amazed. Her clothes are worth every penny. Soft and luxurious! I didnt want to take them off! I could spend every day in this outfit and feel great. The cut is amazing and truly felt as if she made it just for me!

$60.00
Our basic tank will become a permanent staple in your loungewear wardrobe. Made from our super soft modal, it will feel like you're wearing absolutely nothing. The sexy, low cut neckline gives it a flattering compliment to the bosom without revealing too much. This versatile loungewear piece is perfect to wear with jeans, or a layering piece to any ensemble. And of course, you can pair it with almost any of the Erin Braxton lounge pants or shorts and make the perfect pajamas. You may want to order more than one so you have them on hand when needed.

$84.00
These basic lounge pants are great for just lounging around, walking the dog or even sleeping. They're so soft you'll want to wear them forever. Pair them with the basic tank or knotted tank if you want a full ensemble.

Perfect Portions, made easy!

Clean your plate. Many people have heard this phrase since they were a child but it can be counteractive if the portions on your plate are too large.

The Perfect Portions Scale can help you decide your portion sizes and make smarter dietary choices. The Food Scale + Nutrition Facts weighs food and then uses the standard USDA Nutrition Facts label to display its nutrition information in a familiar format. The scale then adjusts the Nutrition Facts to your actual portion size-often with surprising results! For example, many of us eat far more than a ‘single serving’ of cereal in the morning, consuming 500-600 calories rather than the 110-160 calories indicated on the side of the box.

The Food scale can help you decide portion sizes from snacks to meals. The scale has a TOTAL function that allows you to easily keep track of nutritional information for a meal or an entire day while ensuring that your portion sizes are the best for your dietary needs and goal.

The Perfect Portions Scale helps you determine the portion size that is right for you. Buy your scale today and learn the information you need to better understand nutrition and portion control.

I was so excited to get a food scale because I have never used one and really think that it could change the way that I view my portions. Once I get this scale, expect to see some recipes with added weight for all you food weighers. Now, dont get me wrong. Black Garlic.

Developed in Korea, black garlic is simply garlic that has been aged and fermented—no additives. That means no food coloring, no soy sauce (yes, it’s gluten-free!), and no preservatives—just pure garlic. The black color occurs naturally as the sugars are drawn out of the garlic cloves during the fermentation process.

Although garlic is the sole ingredient of black garlic, don’t be fooled. Black garlic doesn’t taste like your regular raw garlic. In fact, it probably doesn’t taste like anything you’ve ever had before. Black garlic is full of umami and complex flavors that take your mouth on a gustatory adventure. The initial bite is mild, followed by a burst of caramelized sweetness, and a rich savory finish.

Black garlic isn’t just a culinary marvel; it is also beneficial to your health! It’s no mystery that garlic is good for you, with its abundance of Vitamin C and other antioxidants. The fermentation process doubles the amount of antioxidants found in raw garlic! If you don’t care for the pungent odor and spicy bite of raw garlic or you're a garlic lover that wants to try it in a new way, black garlic is for you.

The Fermentation Process

When garlic is exposed to a constant temperature and humidity, after a period of time, it will become brown. Holding it under the same conditions, the color will gradually turn darker and darker. The black color comes from the melanoidins that are a product of the reaction between the sugar and amino acids naturally present in garlic. Through this process of fermentation, the non-volatile ingredients in raw garlic are preserved.

Even just after 10 days the color of the garlic cloves begins to turn black. However, garlic has not been fully fermented at this stage. To reach the ultimate state of fermentation, our garlic is fermented for 45 days and then aged for an additional 45 days to give you the best quality aged and fermented garlic.

All about Black Garlic Love:
Here at BlackGarlicLove we are committed to bringing you black garlic of the highest quality. Our garlic comes from the Namhae county of South Korea, known for their ideal climate and distinctly flavored garlic. We don’t just want to offer you a great product; we want to open up a dialogue about health, cooking, and the good life.

For us, garlic is the perfect food ingredient, with the versatility to flavor cuisines from Korean to Italian. Conjure up the aroma of freshly minced garlic sizzling in a drizzle of olive oil. Black garlic is just another way for us to enjoy our favorite ingredient in a non-traditional way. It's like garlic's little black dress. So feel free to leave comments and interact with others who share your passion for good eats.

I received a bag with two HUGE black garlic cloves. How do you take a super food like garlic and make it even better? Ferment it. Long used in Korea as a health supplement, black garlic is garlic that has been aged and fermented, giving it twice the antioxidants of raw garlic. Human beings have been fermenting food for thousands of years! Fermented foods can help lower cholesterol, aid digestion, and strengthen the immune system. But don’t try black garlic just for the health benefits. Experience the unique flavor that is sure to delight the palate.

I got this recipe right off the website and it was awesome! I love that it adds color to the dish and I doubt it would get un noticed at a party if served. You have to try Black Garlic Cloves, they rock!

I really think that everyone should try to implement garlic in their diets some way or another. This is a fantastic product and I give Black Garlic Love two thumbs up!

Need I say more???

Jason Gibb and Cathy Rogers set up Nudo in 2005 after buying and restoring an abandoned 21 acre olive grove in Italy's Le Marche. Their love of the Italian countryside inspired their now famous Adopt an olive tree programme which allows people all over the world to adopt an Italian olive tree and receive its oil. The programme involves a collaboration between a group of small scale, artisanal olive producers in Le Marche and Abruzzo.

Each olive farmer keeps responsibility for the care of their grove, and all the olive oil goes into the Nudo adoption programme. In giving financial security to the olive farmers, the programme makes viable the traditional farming methods which, quite simply, produce the world’s best olive oil. A love of simple natural food is the starting point for all Nudo products. They are all made from 100% natural, high quality, locally sourced ingredients. Why use artificial preservatives when olive oil is one of the best preservatives there is - and the most delicious?

Some other nuggets of the Nudo philosophy:
*We ship by sea and land rather than air wherever possible.
*For every adoption, we donate money to the 'Tree for all' tree-planting campaign.
*We package our oil in tins to keep our oil fresher and because tin is better for the environment than glass.
*We endorse and encourage any and all hugging of olive trees.

Some random things we like beginning with A:
*Artichokes - especially in Jason's artichoke lasagna.
*Acrobats (and any other people who can jump onto someone else's shoulders).
*The Alice in Wonderland i-pad app (you can juggle pills!).
*Asparagus foraged from the fields. You might only get 5 stalks but they'll be the best you've ever tasted. I just love their sight and seriously, it made my mouth water just looking at it!

Is this not the most beautiful packaging for olive oil ever?!?

Nudo is an olive grove. And part of it can be yours!

Adopt one of its trees for a year and you'll receive all the produce from your tree. Imagine dunking your bread in your own oil from your own tree thousands of miles away on a hillside in Italy.

It's delicious, it's good for the world and you get to show off to your friends.
Hang the consequences. Adopt an olive tree.

OMG!!! How cool is this!

Each of their olive trees is marked with a dot in the maps below. If you want us to choose a tree, click here to adopt. Or have a look at the different groves and select one yourself: Aleandri, Ardelio, Dell'Orso, Fiorano, Fonte Carella, Il Professore, Il Taccolito, La Morla, Lina and Rosalio.

I think I'm sold! Can you imagine getting your very own olive oil from your very own tree that is somewhere like Fonte Carella? Once you've chosen and adopted a tree, the first thing you'll receive is an adoption certificate, to make you official, and your tree information booklet. Then over the course of the year you'll receive two more packages, one in the spring and one in the autumn, containing all the produce from your tree.

We say your tree but we actually collect your tree’s harvest with about 50 of its neighbours – to give us enough olives to press in one go. Think of it as being about the society rather than the individual.

For just £65/$105 (+ shipping) you’ll receive 3 packages over the year: 1. Spring package (all the extra virgin olive oil from your tree) 2. Autumn package (three flavoured extra virgin olive oils) 3. Personalised adoption certificate and booklet about your tree
Now search the grove and adopt a tree.

I mean, come on!!!! Check out the site!!!

http://www.nudo-italia.com/

If you do want to do this as a gift for yourself or for someone you know PLEASE let me know. It will be a surprise, I promise!

Ok, sorry to go on but this blew my mind when I was reading it! I do have a lovely dish that I made with my amazing olive oil! I got the recipe from this site.

Peppers & Tomatoes Stuffed with Couscous…and a Drizzle of Lemon Olive Oil.

Makes 6 servings
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons butter
½ yellow onion, minced
1/3 cup golden and red raisins
2 small carrots, diced
1 cup whole wheat couscous (quick-cooking variety)
1 cup water
sea salt, to taste
freshly ground black pepper, to taste
2 large green peppers
1 large, round yellow or red tomato
6 fresh basil leaves
6 fresh mint leaves

Directions
Preheat the oven at 350°
In a sauté pan over medium heat, warm the butter. Add the carrots and onions and sauté in the butter until soft, about 3 minutes. Add the raisins and sauté until plump, then add the couscous and water, salt and pepper. Cook for the amount of time according to the couscous package instructions. When it is done, remove from heat and allow to cool.
Wash and dry the peppers and tomato. Cut each in half, removing all seeds. Pat the insides completely dry.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place peppers and tomatoes face up on the baking sheet, a couple of inches apart.
Fill each half of the peppers and tomatoes with couscous mixture. Place one basil and one mint leaf on top of each pepper or tomato.
Drizzle each pepper and tomato with a bit of lemon-flavored olive oil.
Bake in the oven for 30 minutes, or until the couscous has begun to brown somewhat, but not dry out. Allow to rest a few minutes, uncovered, before serving.

Hope you enjoy! Let me know!

Pure Bliss!

Hello all my blog readers! I have a great post for you today! Back in April I did a post on my absolute favorite bar in the world! I actually found out about this company through a blog! After seeing it, I just knew I had to try one. I searched for a bar here in Athens but couldn't find one. So, I contacted a company that sold them and BAM! They were on my door step! Whhhooooo Hhooooo! I yelped! When I opened the box back in April I received a box of every flavor. This made my year! Not kidding. I was floating around for weeks with the thought that I could eat one every day for months. Well....that's what I thought.

I actually went through those babies in two months flat. That's crazy!!! I couldn't stop! I did share with a few as I couldn't contain myself when someone would ask what I was snacking on. It was my go-to snack if I was on-the-run or just whenever. I was at the local health food store and realized that Pure had a new package. In case you didn’t notice, Pure got a makeover. It is the same fantastic bar, just new outer wear. I love what they have done with the packaging and wanted to review the bar again now that it "looks" different. Let's get started on the wonderful product review! I am going to tell you alllllllll about it!

Pure is dedicated to satisfying stretches, sunlit hikes, belly laughs,
and muddy hands.

The folks at Pure Organic believe in creating products that nourish both the body and the soul. PURE seeks to go one step beyond promoting a healthy, active lifestyle through wholesome food. They recognize the importance of giving back to the community in a genuine, meaningful manner. At Pure they endeavor to change the world, one satisfying snack at a time.

How are Pure Bars different than other snack or energy bars? These aren’t your average wrapped energy bars. Raw, organic, and able to satisfy the most snack attack, they also boast ingredients like antioxidant-loaded fruits and heart-healthy nuts. Each bar has nearly five grams of organic fiber and close to seven grams of organic protein, making it a wise weapon in the fight against munchies. You get all of this in a minimally processed bar that’s as close to raw as we can make it. Still, none of this will be running through your mind once you take your first taste of the bar that’s truly Pure.

Pure Bars are made from certified organic ingredients and are gluten-free, vegan, raw, kosher, and entirely delicious.
Our bars aren’t simply tasty, they also pack a nutritional punch with omega-3s, fiber, and protein.

With six flavors this enticing, it’s hard not to cram them all in your mouth at once. Don’t even try, they won’t fit. Here is the run down:

Apple Cinnamon Pure Bar

Our Apple Cinnamon Bar is so delicious, you might be tempted to pair it with a scoop of ice cream.
It starts with antioxidant-rich organic dried apples, which provide both fiber and flavenoids (fun to say and fun to eat). We combine that appley goodness with energy-sustaining cinnamon and certified organic walnuts that are chock full of omega-3s. The result is a wholesome snack that powers your body and delights your mouth, no oven required. Think of it as a healthy slice of apple pie you can carry in your pocket.

Cherry Cashew Pure Bar

We take dried, unsweetened, organic tart cherries that are rich in antioxidants, phytonutrients, and Vitamin C. These tiny, tangy tidbits are mixed with organic cashews, omega-3 rich walnuts, heart-healthy almonds, and organic dates. The result: a nutty sweet-tart snack that definitely isn’t the pits.

Chocolate Brownie Pure Bar (close second for my favorite!)

We could tell you about how organic cocoa has flavonoids which act as antioxidants to reverse cell damage. We could mention how organic walnuts have heart healthy omega-3s. And, yes, we could tell you about the essential fiber, potassium, and magnesium that are found in Deglet Noor dates. Or we could just say two words: Chocolate Brownie. Made from all of these incredible ingredients, it’s utterly nutritious with an unbelievable chocolate taste. Take a bite of the best brownie your body has ever had.

Cranberry Orange Pure Bar

You’ll like our Cranberry Orange Bar so much, you might do a little dance as you chew. A zing of citrus from organic orange peel combines with naturally sweet-tart, organic cranberries. These fiber-rich, antioxidant-loaded ingredients are blended with a myriad of yummy, heart-healthy nuts.

Trail Mix Pure Bar (third place for me!)

Say goodbye to the bland granola bars that plagued your last hike.
Our trail mix bar is off the beaten path. We blend raw dark cacao nibs that are high in antioxidants with fiber-rich organic apples and raisins. Then we add certified organic walnuts that are full of omega-3s, protein, and more fiber. The result is a trail-mix-blazing snack that is both healthy and delectable, leaving you satisfied as you trek across the wooded glen or race your way to work. It will have you humming “Happy Trails” for sure.

Wild Blueberry Pure Bar (My favorite!)

When your body gets the blues and your palate needs a pick-me-up, humdrum just doesn’t hack it. That’s why we created the Wild Blueberry Pure Bar. We combine flavorful antioxidant-rich ingredients like dried, organic blueberries, walnuts that are full of omega-3s, heart-healthy almonds, and potassium-packed dates, resulting in a natural snack that’s savagely delicious. Try a bite and you’ll be convinced: the call of the wild sounds like this bar’s wrapper tearing open.

Here are some answers to questions asked about Pure Bars:

Are Pure Bars gluten-free? Yes. Pure Bars are certified gluten-free. We use no wheat or wheat family products in our bar. (The facility where our bars are processed is not wheat-free, but contamination is virtually impossible given the measure of cleanliness required by organic standards.)

Are Pure Bars organic? Absolutely. Unlike Larabar and other raw bars, Pure Bars are certified organic, which means that at least 95% of our ingredients are organic. Using organic fruits and nuts means that our ingredients are free of pesticides and herbicides. This is especially important given that conventional fruit is relentlessly sprayed with nasty chemicals. After all, you can’t wash a bar. (We’ve tried.) Buying organic also keeps the planet cleaner, so your tummy and taste buds aren’t the only beneficiaries.

Do Pure Bars need to be refrigerated? Only if you like the taste of them cold! Otherwise, leave them anywhere you tend to get hungry. Pure Bars have a one-year shelf life, no fridge required.

What does "raw" mean? "Raw" indicates foods that aren’t exposed to heat above 118ºF. Raw foods aren’t just uncooked, they’re unprocessed, close to their source, and many are coveted for their nutritional value. When food is heated, the high temperature destroys its enzymes. By choosing raw foods, you’re selecting vittles that boast the most nutritional gusto, including a higher antioxidant content. Raw foods give your diet bonus points if you’re looking for healthy extra credit. They also taste rawsome.

Why is it important to include raw foods in our diet? Our bodies aren’t just temples, they’re temples undergoing constant renovation. From cell renewal to keeping our immune systems strong, we perpetually require energy to repair and renew ourselves. Raw foods provide healthful and flavorful fuel for this process. One of the benefits of eating raw is a feeling of overall health and wellness.

People who choose a raw food diet are noted to experience improvements in their general physical and mental status, including increased energy, weight loss, detoxification, and a sturdier immune system that better resists and recovers from disease. Most people who add raw fruits and veggies to their diets also report becoming more conscious of their bodies, and many report definite spiritual improvement. Ask anyone: eating raw is bliss.

By eating raw foods, you omit cooking, which means that you’re wasting less electricity. It’s a bright idea that’s better for the bank account and the environment.

Are Pure Bars raw? We know you can’t always prepare raw meals at home. Not-cooking often takes more time than you’d think. Pure Bars are convenient bits of certified organic goodness that are raw and ready to go when you are. We’re committed to choosing wholesome fruits and nuts for a nutritionally balanced snack that provides a raw advantage over the other options out there. All of our bars are cold processed using ingredients that are not subjected to heat above 118 degrees Fahrenheit, except our agave nectar, rice protein, and cocoa (cocoa only being found in our Chocolate Brownie bar).

Here are the exact percentages of raw ingredients for each flavor:
Chocolate Brownie 65%
Apple Cinnamon 78%
Cherry Cashew 78%
Cranberry Orange 79%
Chocolate Chip Trail Mix 82%
Wild Blueberry 81%

What is agave nectar?
Agave nectar is sourced from the sap of succulents by the same name (plants that resemble cactus or yuccas), and the taste is similar to honey. It’s a low-glycemic ingredient that adds moisture and natural sweetness to foods without significantly raising your blood sugar. We consciously chose agave nectar over syrups or other refined sugars because it’s just better for you.

Here is Veronica Bosgraaf, Pure Bar Founder's story:
When my daughter was six, we went to a petting zoo.
At the dinner table, she made the connection between the chicken on her plate and the animals that she had held. It was then that she made the decision to become a vegetarian.
I recognized this as an opportunity for us to explore a new way of eating together. There clearly was a lack of healthy vegetarian snacks in grocery stores, so we decided to create one of our own. Our requirements were stiff. We would only use real ingredients, organic fruits and healthy nuts untouched by harmful herbicides and pesticides. No refined sugars, no chemicals, no genetically-modified stuff. We wanted ingredients rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and omega-3 fats. Most importantly, it had to taste amazing.
After all, she was six.

Following hundreds of hours in the kitchen and dozens of dinner-table taste-tests, we perfected our recipes. We shared them with friends and family. They passed them to even more people. There was excitement about a bar that was cooked up in a kitchen instead of created in a lab. What I fed my daughter as a tasty, healthy snack had suddenly taken on a life of its own.
Pure Bars were born.

We love that we have the opportunity to share the deliciousness of Pure with the planet. Although our bars are suitable for vegetarians and vegans, they’re superb nutrition for every appetite. Try a bite and help us to spread healthy around. And be sure to bring one on your next trip to the petting zoo.

She contacted me herself! I love it when a company does that! It makes me feel like I am getting to chat with a celebrity! Anyway, she was kind enough to send me some Pure Bars and my oh my, it never ceases to amaze me how good these bars really are. The blueberry is my absolute favorite with the Chocolate Brown at a close second. I love, love, love these!
